Chilled Barrel

Double Poured Rolls

A hard shell, a forgiving core.

Double Poured Rolls

Drag to turn

These rolls are produced by a special double pour casting method, which creates two independent zones: a shell of high-alloy iron and a core of soft graphitic grey iron. They are cast under closely time-controlled conditions, so the graphitic core properly cushions the harder pearlitic, bainitic or martensitic shell.

The various double poured qualities suit specific applications, each differing in strength and toughness. Barrel hardness can exceed 80 Shore, with strength of 20 to 30 kg/mm².

For greater neck strength, the core can be made of ductile iron. Double poured rolls of 70 to 80 Shore with an SGI core are made specially for tool steel and high-speed steel rolling, because of the strength of the S.G. iron journals.

Barrel hardness exceeding 80 Shore, cushioned by a graphitic core. An SGI core adds neck strength.
