Quality & testing

We give what we commit.

Every roll is inspected at various stages, to ensure it meets the stipulated specification and dimensions.

Tested where it is made.

Being quality conscious has earned this organisation a place in the international market. Our testing facilities are in-house and right on the shop floor, so problems are caught at the stage where they begin, not at the customer's mill.

The Spectro Lab, right on the shop floor

The inspection toolkit

Full-fledged chemical lab

A full-fledged lab for checking composition against the grade.

Spectrometer

Optical emission spectrometry in our dedicated Spectro Lab, for an accurate read of the melt.

Ultrasonic testing machine

Ultrasonic flaw detection, to confirm the internal soundness of the roll.

Hardness tester

Portable hardness testing along the barrel and necks, on the Shore scale.

Handheld alloy analyser

A quick and non-destructive confirmation of the grade on the finished roll.

Dimensional inspection

Digital vernier calipers and micrometers check every neck and wobbler against the drawing.

Bending test machine

Bend testing, as a check on the strength and ductility of the material.

Checked at each stage

  1. 01

    In the melt

Chemistry confirmed by spectrometer in the Spectro Lab.

  2. 02

    After forging

Blanks marked with grade and heat number, for traceability.

  3. 03

    After heat treatment

    Hardness confirmed along the roll.

  4. 04

    On the machine

Dimensions checked in process, against the drawing.

  5. 05

    Before dispatch

Ultrasonic test, final inspection and colour coding.
